We were commissioned to work alongside EaseManage by the fabulous new owners of The Shipwreck Museum and Loveday's in Charlestown, to completely redesign the restaurant and create an exciting destination that would appeal to tourists and locals of all ages.
The restaurant was very much dominated by a tired and very red interior, with dark wood accents and poor lighting. This made the space feel outdated and quite bland. On commencing the design work, our brief was ‘funky, foody, shipwrecky’.....! The client team were wonderful in that they were open-minded and forward thinking, the space should be fun, relate to the museum below and the surrounding town, as well as create an atmosphere that would draw people in day and night. The lighting rigs and open trussed roof give a nod to the heritage of the building, with rustic finishes reminding everyone that they are above a Shipwreck Museum and in a historic coastal town steeped in history. Artefacts from the museum are carefully display in glazed boxes and wall mounted frames, for the customers to view whilst waiting for food. Even the journey to the toilets is interesting, with framed maps on the walls and a fun Sea Monster carpet! |
